The annual Canadian skills Competition (CSC) was held in Halifax, Nova Scotia from May 23 to 26, 2006 at the Halifax Metro and World Trade Centre. The CSC is an olympic-style skills competition which showcases  students’ technical and leadership skills. Students participate in practical challenges designed to test  skills required in technology and trade occupations.

The philosophy of the skills  competitions is to reward students for excellence, to directly involve industry in evaluating student    performance and to keep training relevant to employer’s needs.

The competitions allow students to access the newest technologies and communicate with industry experts who serve as mentors by showing students that the skills they possess are valuable.

The Canadian Skills Competition encompasses many different trades, from technical fields such as precision machining to more artistic areas such as hairstyling and baking.

However, it is the collision repair   competition we are interested in,   so without further ado here are   the medal winners from this year’s competition.

In the Post-Secondary category,   Daniel Chudy of Ontario won the Gold, Jeffery Verge of Nova Scotia won Silver, and Alberta’s Josh Kurtz took home the Bronze.

Alex Heaman-Marade of Ontario won the Gold medal in the Secondary school division. Alex will represent Canada at the next World Skills Competition which will be held in Numazu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan from 14-21 November 2007.

The other medal winners in the Secondary division are Jessica Leclerc of Quebec who won the Silver medal, and Donald Quang of Manitoba who took home the Bronze medal. For more information on the Canadian Skills Competition please visit www.skillscanada.com
