Hamilton, Ontario -- June 9, 2011 -- Graduates of the Centennial College Autobody techniques program have just graduated and are eager to show employers in the autobody, collision repair and auto refinishing industries, how they can help shops repair vehicles, says CIIA.
The 35 graduating students are just finished their techniques program, a longer program than offered in initial apprenticeship and have paid for their training themselves. Many employers feel that this makes these graduates more motivated to find a good job in the industry and prove what they can do, CIIA notes.
A number of grants and incentives are available including tax credits of up to $2000 upon hiring and a $10,000 apprenticeship tax credit when hiring any of these graduates as apprentices. Each apprentice would also qualify for an $800 tool loan.
To contact any of these graduates, please see the front page of the employment section of the collision industry web site at www.ciia.com.
For potential grants, incentives and credits, click here and scroll down to the second page.

Barcelona, Spain -- May 20, 2011 -- At the 2011 International Bodyshop Industry Symposium, Thatcham Automotive Academy announced the launch of Thatcham Training Associates (TTA). A new initiative from the world renowned research centre, TTA will provide Thatcham training on a global scale, delivered by local providers.
All Thatcham Academy courses benefit from the unique knowledge transfer from Thatcham’s Repair Research Centre, with the resulting latest vehicle repair processes delivered to delegates and included in all course content.
Increasingly Thatcham training courses and Instructors are in demand across the world and to answer this demand TTA has been developed. TTA is a new approach to automotive training delivery, giving like minded organizations the opportunity to offer Thatcham training, tailored to local needs and using the very latest research and supporting documentation, training aids and interactive tools available from the premier automotive research centre.
The global launch of TTA follows a successful pilot with the Manukau Institute of Technology (MIT) in Auckland; one of New Zealand’s leading education and training institutes. MIT recently delivered an international Vehicle Damage Assessor (VDA) course to a group of insurers and repairers using the TTA model. Thatcham’s new i-VDA software was an integral part of the content. i-VDA is a specially developed interactive tool to support virtual vehicle assessments and allows assessors to learn the correct approach to planning and costing for safe and quality vehicle damage assessment.
Meanwhile, USA based Verifacts Automotive will be running their first Thatcham Training Associate VDA course on June 7th and 8th, the location will be announced shortly.
A second course for delivery through Thatcham Training Associates is under development. With the working title ‘Modern Vehicle Body Repair’ this course will provide a greater understanding of the repair processes for modern, technologically advanced vehicles again using all of Thatcham’s research expertise and supported by a unique interactive i-Repair learning tool.
The Motor Insurance Repair Research Centre, or 'Thatcham' as it is widely known was formed in 1969 by British Insurers. The Centre is independently operated and has its own Board of Directors. Its main aim is to carry out research targeted at containing or reducing the cost of motor insurance claims, whilst maintaining safety standards. Thatcham provides products and services for a number of functional areas within the collision repair industry: Insurers; Motor Manufacturers; Equipment Manufacturers and Suppliers.
Employing over 170 members of staff, Thatcham has an established reputation as an automotive standard setter and a proven capability in delivering an array of totally unique, high quality, ready to use and bespoke products and services to the automotive industry, on a global stage.
The largest body and paint training facility in the UK, Thatcham deliver almost all of the insurance engineer/assessor/loss-adjustor training in the UK and a large percentage of training to independent body shops and vehicle manufacturers.
Widely recognized for its key role in shaping the nature of training provided in the mature UK body repair sector, Thatcham has received an increasing number of requests and opportunities to deliver training overseas. In order to deliver quality training overseas, to a level and experience similar to that received at its own facility, Thatcham has worked on a program for overseas, local partners to be able to deliver Thatcham courses in their own markets, to become a Thatcham Training Associate (TTA), delivering 'Training in a Box'.
Thatcham will provide a comprehensive suite of material for the local trainer to deliver the particular course – course book, presentation, interactive tools. This material will enable a trainer to prepare for the delivery of a course, prepare the appropriate vehicle or equipment, and provide guidance on areas of research ahead of the course. The material will be an accurate representation of all, or part, of the course material used in the delivery at Thatcham’s own premises and will have been assembled by the Thatcham Academy lead training developer and Thatcham’s media department.
In order to maintain the quality of the training course delivered locally, and to support the Thatcham brand, it is a condition that the course can only be delivered by an Associate trainer, who has been approved by Thatcham.
The training courses offered by Thatcham's Academy cover five key disciplines: Panel, Paint, M.E.T. (Mechanical, Electrical and Trim), Glazing and VDA (Vehicle Damage Assessment). There will be a range of courses designed for delivery by Thatcham Training Associates. The first to be ready is aimed at Vehicle Damage Assessors and uses the interactive i-VDA tool to help support learning.
