Cary, North Carolina -- January 8, 2012 -- LORD Corporation, maker of Fusor Automotive Repair Adhesives, has announced the completion of 1,125 clinics to more than 5,503 students in 2012 as part of the I-CAR Training Alliance.
In 2012, LORD updated their Fusor/I-Car training alliance curriculum, which now offers five comprehensive, one hour training courses. The LORD Fusor Training Alliance courses provide the latest adhesive and seam sealer applications procedures and were developed to fit the needs of the collision repair professional, automotive OEMs, insurance companies and collision repair industry experts. These courses were designed to teach proper product repair procedures using lean processes that result in repairs that match original, OEM performance and appearance.
According to Timothy Jackson, Regional Manager at LORD Corporation, the mission of the LORD Automotive Aftermarket Training Department is to develop and deliver courses to the collision repair industry that enable attendees to obtain the skills necessary to properly use the Fusor Aftermarket product line. The success of these training courses is evident. “LORD Fusor Automotive Aftermarket products are designed to reduce cycle times, improve overall quality, resulting in improved customer satisfaction. Automotive repair adhesives are used to restore and return vehicles to pre-accident condition, and are specially formulated to repair all types of automotive substrates, using the same proven adhesive technology that is applied to the OEMs,” said Jackson. “We are proud to offer this education to our industry and congratulate the collision repair professionals that have successfully completed their training. Achieving this success in 2012 is a major milestone for the program.”
Recognized by the I-CAR training alliance, course instruction includes OEM approved and/or industry accepted techniques, proper and safe use of adhesives and seam sealers, proper product selection for each type of repair, and surface preparation for optimum repair results.
”Fusor has displayed a strong commitment to professionalism through training, and with these efforts have provided value to their customers achieving or maintaining the I-CAR Gold Class Professionals designation,” said Jeff Peevy, Senior Director of Field Operations and Segment Development at I-CAR.

Toronto, Ontario -- December 17, 2012 -- The Ontario College of Trades is seeking eight experienced auto body and collision damage repairers to review and update the 2003 Apprenticeship Training Standard. The Training Standard is then used by college trade instructors to develop the apprenticeship in-school curriculum. The standards are generally updated every three to four years to address technological changes in the industry, according to John Poirier, Manager, Standards, Ontario College of Trades (OCOT).
The National Occupational Analysis (NOA) for the trade of Motor Vehicle Body Repairer (Metal and Paint), upon which the Red Seal examination is based, was last revised in 2010, and the Ontario Training Standard should reflect the changes found in that document.
However, there is no definite time frame for updating the standards and OCOT will continue to use the curriculum if there are no major changes in the industry which merit a revision.
“In some cases, if there are no major changes, a training standard might last five years,” says Poirier. “The industry needs to tell us if we need to upgrade our training standards.”
The College regularly revises its standards to match changes in the industry, and is currently seeking collision repair experts to work on the project
Potential workshop participants will ideally meet the following criteria:
- Hold a Red Seal certificate
- Currently manage/supervise/lead apprentices
- Currently practice the trade
- Represent all geographic regions of the province, as well as represent small, medium and large businesses.

Hoffman Estates, Illinois -- December 17, 2012 -- With the 2013 Auto Show season approaching and soon-to-be-released vehicle technologies entering the marketplace, consumers are making decisions on which vehicles they might choose as their “next new car.”
According to Automotive News, there will be over 200 new or significantly changed vehicle models announced through 2015, thus making the need for advanced training on vehicle-specific repair techniques essential. In today’s ever-changing environment, awareness and understanding of vehicle technology are mission critical to the performance of complete and safe repairs.
I-CAR has premiered its newest live training course, Vehicle Technology and Trends 2013. This course provides an auto show insider look at what’s coming mainstream, as well as important information for making precise repairs to these new technologies.
The course will focus on adapting to changing collision repairs. Repair industry professionals will learn about the latest vehicles and technology trends that impact the repair process, including structural design changes, and new materials, electronics and systems throughout the vehicle. Interactive elements throughout the course with expert instructors provide even more value to the students by allowing them to engage and receive answers to questions that impact their day-to-day jobs.
“The course is a unique training experience for students,” said I-CAR Technical Director Jason Bartanen in a statement. “In addition to focusing on new vehicles and technologies, it builds an understanding of how the economy, government mandates, and vehicle design principles are working together to rapidly change vehicles of the future.”
