Windsor, Ontario -- August 16, 2012 -- A 71-year-old Windsor man faces charges in connection with an alleged chop shop in Detroit. A raid by Detroit Police on Midland Used Auto Parts resulted in the seizure of 179 vehicles. Many of these vehicles have already been confirmed as stolen.

Police have declined to release the name of the suspect until arraignment. He is the owner of Detroit’s Midland Used Auto Parts. Michigan law has a specific charge for running a chop shop. The Windsor man also faces charges related to and concealing stolen property.

Employees of the business allegedly disassembled the stolen vehicles for parts. The remains would be crushed for scrap.

Police also seized a bulldozer, an earthmover and a motorhome from the property, but it has not been determined if these items were stolen.
