DCR Systems Initiates Four-Day Work Week Print E-mail

MENTOR, OH -- June 30, 2008 -- DCR Systems has begun transitioning team members at its accident repair centres to a four-day work week, featuring 10-hour shifts Monday through Saturday. The four-day work week has been in place at Metro Accident Repair Center in Brook Park, OH since January 2008, and at Classic Accident Repair Center in Mentor, OH since June 23. DCR’s other accident repair centres are scheduled to convert over the next few months.

The new model creates a win/win/win for DCR customers, DCR employees and the company itself:
• Vehicle owners, DCR’s dealer partners and insurance companies benefit from enhanced cycle time and decreased loss of use.
• Employees benefit through enhanced quality of life — their commute costs decrease by 20% and they gain 52 additional days off per year without a negative impact on compensation.
• DCR Systems increases its value proposition by improving its capability by 50% in a given week, while also enhancing its attractiveness as the employer of choice.

“It’s the uniqueness of our patent-pending, process-based model that allows us to do this,” says DCR Systems President and CEO Michael Giarrizzo, Jr., referring to how no one tech “owns” the vehicle as an assignment. Instead, a highly skilled and versatile team perform an interdependent set of steps. “Our unique process-centered environment lends itself to expanded shifts and work weeks that give back precious time to our team and their families while improving our overall value proposition in the form of speed.”

As with anything new, some of DCR’s team members were apprehensive about the change at first. Others — like Scott Yost, a member of the refinish team at Classic Accident Repair Center — loved the idea right from the start.

“I was really excited about it and all for it,” says Yost, explaining that he knows his schedule in advance for the year and that every three weeks, he gets five days off in a row. “It’s like a vacation every three weeks! I’m getting an extra 52 days off a year off, saving about $80 a month in gas and spending a lot more time with my family. It’s great!”

Since the launch of its first dealer-based, turn-key accident repair center in early 2005, DCR Systems has not only been prompting dealerships to re-examine their current operations and realize the revenue potential of a lean-based collision repair operating model in a world-class work environment, but has also been creating life-long careers for technicians by providing an environment to enhance their skills and the opportunity to evolve within the company.
