December 4 - Kitchener, ON - Throughout the country, all trades are experiencing a labour shortage. Fewer students leaving high school are pursuing a trade, choosing instead to opt out. Part of the reason is that the jobs available are portrayed as underpaying, unsatisfying, and demeaning to one’s dignity. But for anyone with an ounce of common sense, evidently, this is not the case. Trades are high paying, hands-on, exciting careers (not just jobs) and are just as honourable, if not more so, than any other profession.
Spreading these ideals, the 7th annual Skills Canada-Ontario event is dedicated to promote the skilled trades, and to raising funds that help youth get involved in them. The fundraiser with a cause will be taking place at the Delta Hotel in Kitchener on March 4th. All proceeds raised from this event go towards the Skills Canada-Ontario Bursary, which began in 2002. This bursary provides financial assistance for travel to approximately sixty young people each year traveling to the Canada Skills Competition.
A highlight of the evening will be a special performance by the critically acclaimed Guinness World Record Holder Scott Hammell, while the event will also honour recipients of the Klaus Woerner Skilled Trades Hall of Fame.
Skills Canada is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting the skilled trades and technologies as viable, first-choice career options for Ontario youth. To help this cause and attend the fundraiser and silent auction, reserve your tickets by contacting Linda Barton at
