| BASF Announces Record Profits for 2006 |

LUDWIGSHAFEN, Germany — BASF has announced that its annual sales have surpass the €50 billion mark for the first time in the company's history. Income from operations (calculated as earnings before interest and tax) before special items climbed 18 per cent to more than €7.2 billion in 2006. Company sales increased by 23 percent to almost €53 billion with businesses acquired by BASF in 2006 contributing €4.2 billion to this amount. Sales in the Performance Products segment rose by 23 percent to more than €10 billion. BASF will publish its Financial Report and Corporate Report on March 14, 2007.
