In most shops, the technicians can really be considered sub-contractors or independent business people, rather than as part of a production team.

However, some shops have moved forward with an innovative approach: building production teams. Teams offer flexibility, and some stakeholders have reported decreased cycle times and increased technician morale. Also, forming teams should finally give your techs the time they need to mentor apprentices.

To me production teams in a collision repair shop is a no brainier. The up side out weighs the down side of techs and owners not being able to accept change. I’m all for production teams in an alternative auto collision infrastructure - as well as this industry. Two thumbs up!
