I think it's quite likely that we're going to see integrated crash avoidance systems as standard equipment. This will probably mean fewer collisions, but I don't think the number is going to decline that much. In fact, I predict a small upswing until people get used to the new technology.
One of my uncles used to be a driving instructor, and he liked to tell his class about the time he was rear-ended by a new mini-van. The mini-van driver was astounded by the collision, as his van was equipped with ABS.
Having this system in your car won't let you break the laws of physics any more than ABS does. It won't stop people from driving too fast or ignoring inclement weather. I'm not a gambling man, but nonetheless I would bet serious cash that some motorists will assume having this system is a license to drive like a moron. I predict a very steep learning curve for these people.
